Development and requirement
Finland selected the Sisu XA-180 after trials intended to replace ageing BTR-60 carriers. Production began in the 1980s and the design became closely associated with Finnish peacekeeping deployments. 1
Design and battlefield role
Pasi emphasizes simple operation, maintainability, wheeled mobility, and a roomy troop compartment. Early XA-180/185 vehicles are amphibious, while later XA-series configurations evolved protection and payload. 1
Service and evolution
Finland has modernized XA-180 vehicles to extend their service life while newer Patria wheeled platforms enter service. The family also served with multiple foreign operators. 1
Archive boundaries
Pasi is classified as an APC because protected transport is its core role. The later Patria AMV is a separate 8x8 family rather than simply another XA-series subtype. 1
