Museum story
The Parola Armour Museum was founded in 1961 as a specialized museum for Finland’s armored and anti-tank heritage. Its mission covers the equipment, tactics, technology, and personal history of Finnish tank and anti-tank troops throughout the period of Finnish independence, while also preserving equipment used by wartime opponents and allies on Finnish fronts.
The institution is administered by the Parola Armour Museum Foundation and works with Finland’s Military Museum. Its role extends beyond display: the museum maintains archival and photographic collections used by researchers and continues to acquire material from institutions, veterans, families, and private donors.
Collection character
The museum reports roughly 8,000 museum objects, tens of thousands of photographs, an archival and library collection, and a major concentration of armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons. Its Soviet vehicle holdings are a particular strength, alongside rare Finnish and captured equipment. The basic exhibition is chronological, moving from early armor through the wars of 1939-1945, the Cold War, and current Finnish armored equipment.
What to expect
Most exhibits are under cover, with additional vehicles displayed in sheltered outdoor areas. The museum mixes large machines with uniforms, personal histories, anti-tank weapons, photographs, and changing exhibitions, which gives useful context for how Finnish armored forces actually operated. Visitors should check the official site for current special exhibitions and vehicle changes, because the museum actively rotates projects and participates in international exchanges.
