Panser- & Artillerimuseum

The Panser- & Artillerimuseum in Oksbøl documents the development of Danish armored and artillery forces. Its tank collection includes examples of the principal tank and reconnaissance types that served with the Danish Army after the Second World War, plus earlier and related armored vehicles.

Museum story

The Panser- & Artillerimuseum in Oksbøl grew from a Danish Army vehicle collection that had been displayed in military camps since the late 1960s. As exposure to the weather threatened long-term preservation, supporters worked to move the vehicles under cover. A dedicated museum developed in Oksbøl, and later cooperation with the artillery collection broadened the institution beyond armor alone.

The museum remains closely connected to the Danish Army’s training environment at Oksbøl. That history gives the collection a clear national focus: the vehicles are not simply representative examples, but machines tied to the development of Danish armored and artillery forces after the Second World War.

Collection character

The tank collection is designed to show the succession of types used by the Danish Army since 1945. Sherman, Centurion, Leopard 1, Leopard 2, M24 Chaffee, M41 Walker Bulldog, and M10 Achilles are presented as parts of an evolving national force. The wider museum adds armored personnel carriers, wheeled vehicles, self-propelled artillery, and equipment used by armored formations.

What to expect

This is a strong destination for visitors who want to follow one country’s postwar armored development in sequence. Many vehicles are maintained in running order, although restoration and maintenance can change what is visible. The museum also notes that its large halls are not fully climate controlled, so the physical visit retains some of the atmosphere of a working vehicle collection.
