Semovente 105/25

Development and design

The 105 mm gun provided strong high-explosive effect and useful antitank performance. The fighting compartment remained compact, but the vehicle offered considerably more direct-fire power than earlier Italian self-propelled guns. ^{1, 2}

Operational use

A small number entered Italian service before the September 1943 armistice. German forces then took over vehicles and continued production and use in Italy under German designations. ^{1, 2}

The 105/25 represents the mature Italian assault-gun path: a compact direct-fire vehicle designed around a heavy support weapon rather than a turreted tank architecture. ^{1, 2}
