Historical overview
The Type 74 was a four-crew Japanese main battle tank developed under the Japan Defense Agency’s postwar armored-vehicle program and manufactured principally by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, with the 105 mm gun produced domestically by Japan Steel Works under the Western L7 gun lineage. Design and performance
The Type 74 used a conventional MBT arrangement: driver in the forward hull, fighting compartment and turret in the center, and engine/transmission in the rear.
