Development and design
Wirbelwind used the Panzer IV chassis but replaced Möbelwagen’s folding gun platform with an open rotating turret carrying a 2 cm Flakvierling 38. The change emphasized rapid reaction against low-flying aircraft. 1, 2
Operational use
Small numbers entered service during the final year of the war and were often mixed with heavier 37 mm Flakpanzers. The four 20 mm guns produced a high volume of fire but lacked the reach and destructive power Germany increasingly wanted. 1, 2
