Möbelwagen

Development and design

The Möbelwagen emerged from Germany’s 1943 effort to protect panzer divisions from increasingly dominant Allied aircraft. A Panzer IV chassis carried a 37 mm Flak 43 surrounded by folding armored walls. ^{1, 2}

Operational use

It entered production in 1944 and equipped mobile anti-aircraft platoons. The walls improved protection while moving, but crews had to lower them for effective all-around engagement, slowing reaction time. ^{1, 2}

Role and significance

Möbelwagen was the practical bridge between improvised open mounts and turreted Flakpanzers such as Wirbelwind and Ostwind. ^{1, 2}
