Development and design
Kugelblitz sought to solve the exposure problem of earlier German Flakpanzers by enclosing twin 30 mm cannon in a compact powered turret. It retained the Panzer IV automotive base to reduce development time. 1, 2

A very small number of prototypes or pre-production components appeared at the end of the war, but the system never matured into a significant operational fleet. 1, 2
Role and significance
The design anticipated the postwar norm of protected, radar-directed or sensor-integrated turreted air-defense vehicles, even though Kugelblitz itself lacked the time and electronics to realize that concept. 1, 2
