Development and design
The ZSU-57-2 combined a heavily modified T-54 automotive base with a large open turret and twin 57 mm cannon. Its guns offered reach and destructive power well beyond earlier light-caliber systems. 1, 2
Operational use
The absence of an integral radar limited effectiveness against fast jet aircraft, but the system was widely exported and its large guns also proved dangerous against surface targets. 1, 2

ZSU-57-2 represents the high-caliber optical-gun branch of Cold War SPAAG design immediately before radar became integral to successful short-range air defense. 1, 2
