Development and design
The M15 family placed a mixed 37 mm and .50-caliber anti-aircraft mount on the M3 half-track, giving U.S. mobile formations a weapon with more reach than machine-gun-only carriers. 1, 2
Operational use
M15s served alongside M16 MGMCs in U.S. anti-aircraft units during the Second World War and remained useful in Korea, where mobile automatic weapons were frequently turned against ground targets. 1, 2
