Fox CVR(W)

Origins and design

Fox emerged from the British Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance program as the wheeled counterpart to the tracked CVR(T) family. It used an aluminum hull and a two-man turret with the 30 mm RARDEN cannon, prioritizing speed and deployability. ¹

Operational use

The type served with British reconnaissance units during the Cold War but did not achieve the same longevity as Scimitar or Ferret. Some turret and automotive ideas nevertheless influenced later British reconnaissance combinations. ¹

Reconnaissance role and lineage

Taxonomically, Fox should be linked to CVR(T) as a parallel program rather than treated as a direct variant: shared doctrine and weapons, different chassis family. ¹
