Origins and design
AEC developed the armored car using experience with heavy commercial chassis. The first mark mounted a Valentine-type turret with a 2-pounder gun; later marks introduced purpose-designed turrets and progressively heavier armament. 1, 2
Operational use
AEC cars were used in North Africa, Italy, and northwest Europe. Their weight reduced some of the strategic lightness associated with armored cars, but the stronger guns gave reconnaissance units greater ability to survive unexpected contact. 1, 2
