Development and design
Strela-10 replaced the wheeled SA-9 in many Soviet formations. Mounting the launcher on an MT-LB-derived tracked vehicle improved cross-country mobility and allowed the battery to move with armored units. 1, 2

Successive Strela-10M variants improved guidance, counter-countermeasures, target data reception, night capability, and effectiveness against small targets while retaining the compact tracked carrier. 1, 2
