Reconnaissance purpose and family boundaries

Layout, protection, and the two-person crew
The ordinary AMR 35 placed the driver forward and the engine at the rear, with a small offset turret for the commander. The two-person crew left the commander to observe, direct movement, communicate, and operate the weapon. This workload is central to understanding the difference between nominal mobility and effective reconnaissance. Service, losses, and captured equipment
French cavalry and reconnaissance formations used the AMR 35 before and during the 1940 campaign. The cited record describes screening, local support, and delaying actions under conditions that exposed thin armor, limited armament, heavy commander workload, and mechanical fragility. It does not support turning every abandoned vehicle into a combat kill, nor explaining equipment failure solely through crew behavior. Sources
Captured vehicles received German recognition or inventory designations, but these differs from French manufacturing nomenclature. A German handbook photograph proves a recognition entry existed; it does not by itself establish the quantity issued operationally or a specific later combat career. The photographs combines a period halftone, recognition photographs, parade footage reproduced in a later film, and a modern profile montage. The date of a film's release is distinct from the date and origin of its underlying footage.
