Overview and classification
The Renault AMC 34 was a small-series French cavalry combat vehicle whose limited production sits between experimental cavalry mechanization and the later AMC35 program. Its designation uses automitrailleuse de combat, but The vehicle is described as a tracked combat tank within the cavalry’s terminology, not as a wheeled armored car. Sources

Cavalry requirements and development
French cavalry mechanization distinguished discovery, reconnaissance and combat roles. The YR prototype was presented in October 1933. In March 1934, an order followed for twelve hulls without turrets. This is an important qualification: a turretless hull order does not establish the weapon fit at delivery, nor does the prototype’s turret necessarily identify the equipment finally issued to a unit. Renault continued with a more capable successor, but the AMC35 was a separate design program rather than a simple new name for the same twelve vehicles. Confusing the two can transfer the successor’s export orders, two-man turret story or technical specifications into an AMC34 record where they are not established. Hull, crew and protection
The AMC34 had a compact tracked hull with the driving position forward, a turreted fighting compartment and a rear engine. A three-man crew is commonly given in the cited sources, but exact duties and the occupied space depended on the turret installation. Dimensions vary slightly among the sources, with a hull around four metres long and a width a little above two metres. Combat-weight descriptions also fall in a range, approximately nine to ten tonnes. Those alternatives are preserved in the tables instead of being averaged into a supposedly measured value. Engine, mobility and specification uncertainty
The source material associates the AMC34 with a Renault petrol engine of approximately 120 hp and about 7.125 litres, but gives conflicting descriptions of its cylinder arrangement. Four-cylinder and V8 wording cannot both be treated as a settled specification of the same engine. Nominal performance figures around 40 km/h on the road and 200 km range appear in the cited sources. Their conditions and relationship to the competing weight and turret descriptions are uncertain. These figures do not establish sustained endurance for every vehicle in service. Production, service and replacement
Twelve production hulls provide the clearest quantity in the available evidence. The relationship of the initial prototype to totals, the timing of turret completion and the allocation of competing armament installations all need to remain separate. The vehicles’ North African service is recorded inconsistently, particularly in references to Morocco and Tunisia. Those locations cannot be casually substituted for one another or resolved by importing the AMC35’s service history. The AMC34 illustrates the difficulty of turning changing cavalry requirements into a small production vehicle.
