Museum story

War Museum Cambodia was established to preserve material from the country’s long period of civil war and regional conflict. Its collection was assembled from former battle areas, giving many objects visible damage and a direct connection to Cambodia’s recent history.

The museum’s purpose is memorial as well as technical. Vehicles and weapons are presented as evidence of conflict, survival, and the dangers that continued after fighting ended, particularly through mines and unexploded ordnance.

Collection character

The collection is spread mainly outdoors beneath trees and simple shelters. Tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, aircraft, helicopters, mines, weapons, uniforms, and photographs create a dense equipment landscape rather than a polished chronological gallery.

Secondary descriptions identify T-54 and T-55 tanks, but the Archive is withholding a formal reciprocal relationship until current official museum material or clear label documentation supports exact identification and status.

What to expect

Visitors should expect a direct, weathered presentation in which battle damage and outdoor exposure are part of the experience. The site is useful for studying the physical consequences of conflict, but interpretation and conservation standards may differ from large national museums.

Heat, rain, ground conditions, and changing access can affect a visit. Current opening information and transport arrangements should be confirmed locally before travel.
