Museum story

The Vietnam Military History Museum is a national institution devoted to the long history of defending the country and the development of the People’s Army of Vietnam. Its chronological interpretation extends from early state formation through anticolonial struggle, the wars of the twentieth century, reunification, and contemporary national defense.

The museum moved to a large new campus on Thăng Long Boulevard and opened to the public there in 2024. The new setting was designed to combine major objects, outdoor equipment, chronological galleries, digital media, models, audiovisual interpretation, and spaces for research and education.

Collection character

Government information describes more than 150,000 objects, including national treasures, aircraft, artillery, tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and captured equipment. Large outdoor areas distinguish equipment used by Vietnamese forces from foreign systems captured or left after the wars.

T-54B tank No. 843 is one of the museum’s most historically significant armored vehicles. Official material identifies it with the 203rd Armored Brigade and the final campaign of April 1975, and states that it was recognized as a national treasure in 2012.

What to expect

The new museum is much larger than the former central-city site. Visitors move through broad chronological themes and encounter vehicles and weapons as part of the country’s national narrative, supported by maps, models, media, audio guides, and QR-linked interpretation.

The current site is west of central Hanoi on Thăng Long Boulevard. Opening days, fees, holiday arrangements, and transport options should be confirmed before travel because visitor policies have continued to evolve since the move.
