National Military Museum, Cairo

The National Military Museum in the Cairo Citadel presents Egyptian military history across a long chronological span. Galleries use artifacts, weapons, uniforms, models, replicas, and dioramas, while the open-air area includes real tanks and aircraft associated with the October 1973 War.

Museum story

Egypt’s National Military Museum traces its institutional history to 1937 and has occupied several locations. Its present home in al-Haram Palace within the Cairo Citadel links the national military narrative with one of the city’s most important historic defensive sites.

The museum covers military history across many centuries rather than concentrating only on modern armored warfare. Battles, leaders, weapons, uniforms, models, and dioramas place twentieth-century equipment within a much longer Egyptian story.

Collection character

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities specifically identifies real tanks and aircraft in the open-air area that were used in the October 1973 War. These large exhibits complement indoor displays of weapons, equipment, uniforms, artifacts, and interpreted battle scenes.

The public descriptions do not provide a dependable model-by-model armored inventory. The museum therefore enters the directory as an important national collection without speculative links to individual Armor Archive profiles.

What to expect

A visit combines the military museum with the wider Cairo Citadel complex. The setting, palace architecture, indoor galleries, and outdoor equipment displays make the experience broader than a dedicated vehicle museum.

Security, photography, ticketing, and opening arrangements can change. Travelers should use current Egyptian government visitor information and allow sufficient time for entry to the Citadel complex.

Armor Archive vehicle cross-links

These source-backed links appear reciprocally on Armor Archive vehicle profiles. A museum can hold many more vehicles than the Archive currently has profile-to-museum links for.

No item-level Armor Archive relationships have been published for this museum. The institution remains in the directory because its broader collection is documented, while model-level links are withheld until a museum or institutional source identifies specific vehicles.
