Museum story
La Gleize became one of the defining endpoints of Kampfgruppe Peiper’s drive during the December 1944 Ardennes offensive. Fuel shortages, destroyed routes, Allied pressure, and the local terrain forced the German force to abandon heavy equipment and withdraw on foot, leaving the village and surrounding battlefield with an unusually concentrated material legacy.
The museum uses that local story to connect strategic events with individual soldiers and civilians. Its displays emphasize recovered artifacts, uniforms, documents, and battlefield traces rather than treating the campaign only as a sequence of unit movements.
Collection character
The best-known object is Tiger II 213, preserved as an outdoor landmark opposite the museum. Its direct association with the La Gleize fighting gives it significance beyond type representation: it is both a surviving armored vehicle and a fixed witness to the place where the advance ended.
Inside, the collection uses American and German material, mannequins, dioramas, weapons, and personal effects to reconstruct the conditions of the fighting. The Armor Archive publishes one reciprocal Tiger II relationship because the vehicle’s type and identity are specifically documented.
What to expect
This is a focused battlefield museum rather than a general national military collection. A visit is most useful when paired with the village landscape and nearby campaign sites, because the museum’s artifacts are tightly connected to events that occurred around La Gleize.
Allow time to examine the personal objects as well as the Tiger II. Seasonal hours should be checked in advance, and visitors should expect the major armored exhibit to remain outside in the village setting that gives it much of its historical meaning.

Armor Archive vehicle cross-links
These source-backed links appear reciprocally on Armor Archive vehicle profiles. A museum can hold many more vehicles than the Archive currently has profile-to-museum links for.
The preserved Tiger II numbered 213 stands outside the museum at La Gleize and is directly associated with Kampfgruppe Peiper’s abandoned equipment from the December 1944 fighting.
