Museum story
The museum began collecting during the war and opened in liberated Minsk in 1944, before the conflict in Europe had ended. That origin gave it a central role in preserving evidence and constructing the public memory of Belarusian suffering, resistance, and victory.
The present building, opened in 2014, places the museum beside the Minsk Hero City monument. Its national narrative centers on occupation, partisan warfare, the Red Army, mass loss, liberation, and commemoration, while the collection also provides extensive material evidence of the conflict.
Collection character
The galleries combine documents, photographs, weapons, uniforms, reconstructed environments, art, and large military objects. National visitor information specifically identifies vehicles and weapons including the T-34, IS-3, and BM-13 Katyusha.
The explicit T-34 and IS-3 identifications support two reciprocal Armor Archive links. The BM-13 remains outside this wave because the current Armor Archive does not yet have a corresponding profile suitable for a reciprocal relationship.

What to expect
This is a large, state-level museum with extensive indoor galleries and outdoor military objects. Visitors should allow enough time to understand both the material collection and the museum’s role in Belarusian national remembrance.
Current museum hours are published online, but travel conditions can change independently of the institution. International visitors should review official travel guidance, entry and payment conditions, photography rules, and any restrictions before committing to a visit.
